In February 2015, Trinity Mirror publicly admitted phone hacking had taken place at the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People and apologised. In March 2015, the first phone hacking cases against MGN were heard at the High Court in London.

Judgment was handed down on 21 May 2015, with ground-breaking awards of damages for the claimants, who received sums from £72,000 to £260,000.
