Addleshaw Goddard has today confirmed that Charles Penney has been re-elected Senior Partner for a second term with effect from 1 May 2019, for a period of four years ending on 30 April 2023, following a contested election.

Commenting on his re-appointment, Charles Penney said: "I am delighted to continue to serve as Senior Partner of Addleshaw Goddard for a further four years. We have great clients and great lawyers and, alongside my existing client commitments, a continued focus on our growth, our brand and our culture will be key priorities for me as Senior Partner."

A former Secretary of the UK Takeover Panel, Charles Penney joined AG in 2005 and is a well-known figure in the City of London, acting for domestic and international clients on mergers and acquisitions (including, particularly, public takeovers), IPOs (and other fundraisings) and joint ventures.

Charles will continue combining his existing client responsibilities with his leadership responsibilities. The role is market-facing and, alongside the governance aspects, Charles will focus on growth across the firm's UK and international markets, including its chosen sectors (Energy & Utilities, Financial Services, Health, Industrials, Real Estate, Retail & Consumer, Transport and Digital).

John Joyce, Managing Partner, said: "I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with Charles in leading our firm and driving further improvements in our performance and service. A contested election creates a healthy environment in which to engage with partners and Michael Leftley has our respect and thanks for his part in that process."
